Lanzarote

Dear Travelers ,

How are you?

For who does not know me, I started traveling when I was 17 and went to San Diego with my best friend. We spent 3 awesome weeks that made me realize traveling helped me open up and discovering  myself. Well, now it’s been 10 years already but still, every new place I visit gives me that beautiful feeling I got the first time.

Every trip is a new adventure.

Ok, I’m done with story time.

Today’s post will be about one of my last trips: Lanzarote

I travelled to Lanzarote back in March with my best friend (the same one of San Diego) and it was our very first time visiting the Island.

I only had been to Gran Canaria and did not know any of the other Canary Islands.

Flight: Ryanair

We purchased the tickets on January to get the best deals and chose Ryanair as it was the most convenient and offers direct flights to the island.

When I travel with a friend or my boyfriend we usually purchase only one Priority pass so then we can bring 2 backpacks and one hand luggage and save some euros at the same time.

To search for the best deals, I suggest you to compare the flights on Skyscanner and then book directly on the company website.

Rent a car: CICAR

For your trip to any of the Canary Islands, I highly recommend renting a car as it's the best way to explore the islands and it's wayyy cheaper than in most of other countries (the gas too).

CICAR https://www.cicar.com/en:

- good value for money

- the amount you pay for the rent includes the insurance

- you do not have to leave a credit card as guaranty/nor they take a preauthorisation. You pay the total amount upon check in (no prepayment needed upon booking)

- you can cancel or amend the reservation online for free

Price for 4 days: € 95

Your stay: SENTIDO Æquora Lanzarote Suites

For our stay we chose this hotel as it offers all-inclusive plans.

We stayed in a Junior Suite, which looks like a small apartment with a nice balcony and the view over one of the pools.

The hotel offers 2 restaurants with buffet and 3 bars (one adults only), included in the all-inclusive plan, plus one restaurant à la carte.

There are 5 salt water pools, all of them are heated. One of them is adults only while another one is for families with children.

Free parking available on site.

Day 1

Las Grietas: The first place we visited during day 1 was Las Grietas, 3 volcanic cracks (one main and two smaller ones) that are formed on the slope of the volcano that is located in Montaña Blanca. The crack extends for 20 m through a narrow corridor of 600 m high. It reminds me of the Gran Canyon landscape, but this site is not  that we’ll known (yet).

Address: Las Grietas, LZ-35, 35572 Tías, Las Palmas, Spain (about 15 min by car from the hotel)

Free parking available on site.

Punta Mujeres:
we visited this fishing village as we had read of its natural swimming pools. In fact, this place counts of 2 km of many natural pools, two of which are well sheltered from the open sea. We loved it. The village is very traditional especially for its white houses. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side as it was too cold to swim, so instead, we had a nice and relaxing walk.
Good to know: the north of the island is mostly colder and with more wind than the south. Keep it in mind when you plan your trip as you may need a hoody.

Address: 35542, Provincia di Las Palmas, Spain (about 30 min by car from las grietas)

Free parking available at C. Cueva de los Verdes, 66, 35542 Punta Mujeres, Las Palmas, Spain

Mirador del rio/Mirador la Graciosa: the last place we visited during our first day was definitely one of my favorites.
Located in the north of the island on the top of the Famara Promontory, at 474 meters high,  this viewpoint has one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Lanzarote. From the top, you’ ll be able to admire La Graciosa Island and the Famara Promontory. This was for sure one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen. And the contrast between the colors of the sky and sea is breathtaking.
You have two options:

1. You can visit Mirador del rio, which is one of César Manrique's most representative architectural creations and to which you can only get access by purchasing a ticket.

Price: € 5 for adults (https://ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com/en/tickets-and-vouchers/mirador-del-rio-ticket)

2. You can walk a few more min and will get  to Mirador la Graciosa.

Address:35541 Haría, Las Palmas, Spain

Free parking available on site.

Puerto del Carmen: we spent the last hours of the day visiting the city in which our hotel was located. The town is surrounded by different beaches, including Playa de Matagorda and Playa Grande, and is characterized by a long promenade that offers restaurants, shops and nightclubs.

We spent the afternoon relaxing at Playa Grande, and then went to enjoy the sunset at Las amigas rooftop bar.

Price: 10€ pp

Free Parking available at: Parking Playa Chica, 35518 Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Spain

Day 2

Playa del Papagayo: on our second day in Lanzarote we visited one of the most beautiful (and well known) beaches of the island.

The beach is located at about 4 km from Playa Blanca inside of the Natural Park Monument Natural de los Ajaches and is one of the 6 caves of the park. When you exit the roundabout, you’ll have to ride for about 6 more km on an unpaved road and access the park.
Price to the park: € 3/vehicle (free on the afternoon)

Take it  into account when you plan your trip, as it was not well explained online and  the road signs are not the best either (and it got us unprepared ahah)

However, the holes and dust will be worth as soon as you get to the beach.

Another suggestion is to bring your food and water as you’ll be in the nowhere, with only 2 bars/restaurants available on site, which are of course full of people and quite expensive.

As we did not know anything about this Natural Park thing, we had not brought anything from the hotel, so we bought a take away sandwich and a mojito that we enjoyed at the beach.

Address:Calle Hoya de Afre, 35580 Costa de Papagayo, Las Palmas, Spain

Free parking available on site.

Day 3

Playa de Flamingo/Mirador en Playa Flamingo: the first stop of our last and busy day in Lanzarote.

We found this place by chance, while looking for a beach close to Playa Blanca area as needed to go there in the afternoon.

White sand, quiet turquoise water, palm trees.. a paradise.

Moreover if you follow the promenade, you’ll get to its mirador which is stunning. And if you are a romantic one, you can hang your keychain.

I highly recommend this beach as it has everything you may need: showers, rental service of  hammock and umbrellas, restaurants and bars sea view, shops..

For lunch we went to the restaurant La Bahia where we enjoyed a paella sea view. The staff was very friendly and the price very reasonable. They have tapas options as well as pizza, pasta and paella.

Price: 15/20€

Address: Av. Archipiélago, 11, 35580 Playa Blanca, Las Palmas, Spain

Free parking available between  Calle Gran Canaria and Calle Lanzarote (a few min walking from the beach)

Playa Blanca: the last stop of our visit was the town of Playa Blanca which is located in the south of the island and is one of the busiest tourist area on the island. The promenade area is very nice, with many shops and bars.

The area is mostly known for its beaches which are the most beautiful of the island (Playa de Flamingo  - Playa Del Papagayo are an example)

To make this trip memorable, we got an appointment at Gcdtattoo where we got our 2nd matching tattoo.

Davide, the owner, was very friendly and totally satisfied our wishes.

Address: Ntra.Sra. del Carmen, 6, 35580 Playa Blanca, Las Palmas, Spain

Free parking available in the nearby.

Before heading back to the airport, we went to a bar to enjoy one last drink sea view and some tapas. We loved the place,  it’s called Café La Ola. The view and the place are beautiful, very well furnished. They also have a restaurant and offer shisha at night.

Price: 10/20€ pp

Address: Av. de las Playas, 10, 35510 Puerto del Carmen, Las Palmas, Spain

Hope you enjoyed the post. Stay turned and, enjoy the journey.
